Born as a professional monitor by close listening, it was then widely adopted between the domestic walls. His musicality has gone through 5 generations, to arrive unaltered nowadays.
The first LS3/5A was conceived in 1976 as a versatile monitor for listening to BBC broadcast vans in Britain. He had to serve that, and nothing else.
Slowly but constantly, on the other hand, audiophiles around the world realized the qualities of this speaker especially in small environments. And from there the planetary success. In almost 50 years of history the LS 3/5A were produced in thousands of couples by many renowned loudspeakers brands according to the original BBC project, thus keeping an eye on the tight tolerances required by the original project. The “shoebox” as well as friendly is still called today, has a closed case design that allows you to get a quick bass response and a natural reproduction of the middle but above all an incredible naturalness of voices and instruments.
Musical Fidelity decided to debut with a version, absolutely in line with the standards BBC R&D 1976/29, and therefore with multi-layer wooden furniture of 12 mm birch, further damped inside, and identical speakers to the woofer KEF B110 and the tweeter T27 indicated by the specifications and now no longer available. And this in conjunction with the exit, always from Musical Fidelity, of the A1, integrated in class A by 25W which was naturally combined with the LS3/5A. The pair was able to magically reproduce music, of any kind, to leave an indelible track in fans.
About 40 years away, the modern key to the combination that has made many enthusiasts dream. The good news is that the prices remained more or less the same: with an absolutely reasonable figure you take home a set capable of timeless performance and in some ways without comparisons.
