Sound feature
The new Classic 98 is very different from the classic REL sound; is designed to offer a slightly softer sound than other subwoofers in the catalog. The bass more than on speed, act on saturation of the environment. The partial renunciation of the speed and intelligibility of the bass, leave place to the heat of an inviting sound. Classic 98 invites you to put on a disc, pour a expensive drink, lie down in a comfortable chair and relax with music. Iconic design
Classic 98 reinterprets the essence of famous models Rel from 10" with floor emission (down-firing) of the late 1990s. The natural walnut veneer conveys warmth and authenticity, recalling the stereo devices of the 1970s. The rear panel of the amplifier also evokes memories of the time, with its silkscreen in white gold and contrasting knobs, while the glossy black logo on matt background adds a contemporary touch.

Construction technology
In Classic 98 a 25cm woofer with floor emission is used, made with the traditional paper cone technique. A lighter, hot pressed paper is the 2/3 outside of the cone, while the internal overturned dome is in a more precious type of paper, dried in the air, which stiffens the speaker, allowing Classic 98 to exceed the performance of many products of the past. The natural butyl suspension softens dynamics while keeping it always correct over time. This driver is designed to manage the abundance of power provided by the internal amplifier. In the 1990s, offering a 300W amplifier at an affordable price was a virtually impossible challenge. Today, with current technologies, REL has only exploited one of its latest amplifier designs: a high current D-class amplifier with lightning speed. It all translates into a sound not only powerful, but at the same time of quality and deeply impact. While maintaining the aesthetics of historical models, Classic 98 sounds stronger and deeper, offering an audio experience that combines the reliability and technology of modern RELs with a retro look and sound.

Connections and functions
REL has always offered a generous amount of links.
High level, low level, .1/LFE all with their volume potentiometer and variable crossover frequency. There is also the possibility to change phase 0/180°. Also incoming are used by LimitLessTM Limiters and Perfect FiltersTM, ensuring that the Classic 98 amplifier is a harmonious blend of modern and vintage.

Wireless
Rel is now famous for its wireless connection technology, which preserves dynamics without any compression. For Classic 98, you can choose between two wireless models according to your needs.
AirShip II is the most advanced, made for REL Reference models, works at 5.8 GHz, supports both high-level and .1/LFE connection, even at the same time.
HT-Air MKII, always transmits to 5.8 GHz, supports low-level stereo connection or .1/LFE. High-level connectivity is not supported.
