Description

INTEGRATED STEREOFONICO AETHOS AMPLIFICATOR

The Aethos stereo amplifier has a completely new cabinet. It uses four 160 W 16 Amp output transistors per channel that manage to emit 156 W per channel on 6 Ω. Aethos has a dual mono design that uses a specially wrapped toroidal transformer and regulated feeds for delicate stages of amplification and piloting. The pre-amping stage uses a discreet circuit in class-A. Aethos is an uncompromising product that aims to reproduce your music as faithfully as possible. Aethos was built following the highest quality standards Rega in terms of reliability and quality to guarantee you many years of musical pleasure.

INNOVATION

Our time, our efforts and our money have been spent on developing the circuit and building of the amplifier, using in any part the components with the highest specifications. In the design we have included useful features such as a switchable direct input and the pre output, to allow you to use Aethos in a wide variety of systems. The headset has been integrated so that the switching of the speakers is performed by the output pause relay so as not to obstruct the signal path and degrade the sound quality.

Rega started from the design concepts used for the award-winning Elex-R and Elicit-R and brought them to the next level with a 125 watt dual mono design and features such as a completely discrete FET line amplifier, polypropylene capacitors throughout the signal path, K-Power capacitors, regulated power supply for the power amplifier and a high current output stage consisting of four output channel Sanistor 160w.

VOLUME CONTROL AND TECHNOLOGY

Aethos uses a high-performance volume control that operates both on feedback and passively, plus a line amplifier originally developed for the Elex-R. Aethos’s volume control and line amplifier stages have been improved thanks to discrete FET actuators using the LSK389 FET system and the RK27 ‘Blue Velvet’ potentiometer. The feedback and input levels are varied to set the required volume level. The level and trace between the two channels is set more from the closed toleration parts of the pre-amp circuit than from the real potentiometer, therefore reduces to a minimum the discrepancies between the channels due to the irregularities of the tracking of the volume, further improving the performance of the RK27 potentiometer. This method, in addition to reducing trace irregularities also reduces the overload of input and noise as the ‘use’ control only the necessary gain to amplify the signal. This form of volume control is normally found in professional transmission environments where careful control of level disturbance is required.

THE TECHNOLOGY OF POTENTIAL AMPLIFIER

The final amplifier used in the Aethos is an improved version of that used in Elicit-R and Elex-R amplifiers.

The final amplifier used in the Aethos was born after a long research by our engineers to develop a broadcaster-follower stage in Class A with a low source impedance. This is based on two complementary pairs of Sanken Darlington 160 W output transistors.

The technical and sound benefits obtained using low impedance drivers are well known, but, in any case, they can create permanent high currents in the driver stage using standard transistors configurations.

The combination of a low impedance driver with the Sanken Darlington transistors, with their internal static low-current thermal bias network, allows an issuer-follower driver stage in Class A with excellent thermal stability and low static currents in the driver stage.

Thanks to the nature of power circuits Rega we can use two complete output stages in parallel. This includes output transistors, bias network and pre-predo driver transistors instead, as usual, only output transistors.

This ensures that 125 W is easily reached.
