Rega Elicit MK 5
The Rega introduced its brand new integrated stereo amplifier Elicit MK5, which came to the fifth edition after the introduction of the original Elicit in 1990, years during which the construction and sonic quality went away improving, with small but targeted interventions that transformed this integrated into a real icon, a reference for the category of membership price.
The main novelty of this last edition is represented by the brand new design of the DAC circuit, which was not purchased by third parties but was developed internally at the Rega in Essex, which saw engineers also modify the analog circuit.
The digital input is available through optical or coaxial inputs galvanically isolated, and in addition to these, there are also four line inputs, a recording input, plus a high quality MM phono input, as well as for the first time sees the appearance on this 6.3 mm high performance headphone input amplifier.
The new MK5 is based on previous projects Rega using the award-winning A/B class amplification circuit to provide a power equal to 105 W per channel on 8 ohm and 127 W loads for 6 ohms, to reach the more than 160 W for 4 ohm loads, thus guaranteeing the ability to pilot even the most osque speakers.
This new amplifier represents a blend of the company's most successful products and promises to offer in addition to a great sound, power and flexibility, it now shares some design features taken directly from the acclaimed Aethos amplifier, such as the same pre-amping circuit based on discreet FET.
In addition, a Alps volume potentiometer was introduced to further improve sound and technical performance, as well as special attention was paid to the selection of key audio components. such as discrete circuits, high quality relays, polypropylene capacitors and Sanken output transistors used for this new project.
As mentioned, one of the main novelties is represented by the presence on board of the DAC Wolfson, an excellent converter that allows careful musical reproduction with sample frequencies supported up to 192 kHz, with bit depth from 16 to 24.
A truly well engineered integrated, therefore, that can represent a point of arrival for all those looking for a flexible and performing machine, which guarantees a sound reproduction firm, with a great sense of rhythm and an excellent stage reconstruction, squeezing the eye not only to the digital but also to the analogue, allowing to connect to it a turntable with MM cartridge.
