Rega Saturn MK 3
Rega is a well-known manufacturer of hifi electronics based in Essex, United Kingdom, well-known among audiophile enthusiasts, analogist species, because of its appreciated turntables, heads and arms, but this brand also produces other, such as CD players, which, following the company's philosophy of gradually improving over time with targeted interventions, led to the realization of the last reader called Rega Saturn MK III.
Already from the name it is understood that the brand new Saturn MK3 is a direct evolution of its predecessor, which maintains the aesthetic design really appealing, characterized by the charge from the top of the CD, but bringing great improvements to the circuit with the use of even more reliable components, a process of construction refined and opening itself to the future with the presence of a USB input.
The Rega uses for this reader the same galvanic USB DAC input of its DAC-R, which has been further improved thanks to the asynchronous operation and for the attainment of sampling frequencies from 44.1 to 192 kHz, thus allowing you to enjoy high resolution music. This USB input uses ASIO drivers when connected to the PC, to be downloaded before connecting it to the Windows PC, which will ensure full ownership of the signal management, completely canceling the operation of the Windows series driver signal, so harmful to the listens as a result of noise and jitter, logically if connected to a Mac the connection can take place directly without downloading any driver.
The Rega Saturn MK3 uses a brilliantly designed digital to analogue converter Wolfson WM8742, but the single DAC even though it requires high-capacity companions to ensure the performance it is capable of, and this in this reader is ensured by the presence of a high-stabilised masterclock, a high-capacity power supply in the CD circuit, a high-performance PLL digital interface receiver and a power architecture optimally realized in DAC circuits.
The switching of the signal between CD and DAC is performed during the digital/analog conversion phase. The signal path of the CD section in CD mode is minimized.
This CD/DAC player therefore offers complete flexibility thanks to the two optical and coaxial inputs, and integrates into any system being essentially two products in one, i.e. a high quality transport and an independent DAC circuit, with both completely remotely controlled sections via the Solaris remote control.
