When Engineers Rega the Planar 8 turntable had only one thing in mind, to make a turntable completely different from the RP8 that could mark a turn not only stylistic, because of its particular shape, but also at a performance level, with the aim of proposing the best sound quality ever in this price range.
First of all, a base characterized by high rigidity and at the same time absolutely light, using the technologies used in F1 and in the aerospace industry to ensure the highest level of performance, but every detail of Planar 8 has been engineered to extract as much details as possible from the vinyl surface.
The plinth is in fact built using the latest material in ultralight polyurethane Tancast 8, developed precisely for the aerospace industry, which is inserted between two layers of HPL which is a high pressure laminate, extraordinarily thin and extremely rigid.
Thanks to this system you can obtain a lighter base of 30% compared to the original RP8, while offering greater rigidity, preventing the absorption of energy and undesirable resonances that would add unnatural distortion to music.
The plate used is in triple-layer glass, with a central section in transparent glass, while the lower and upper part are in smoked glass that give the whole a nice color contrast pleasant to the street.
The main bearing has been redesigned with an aluminum underpit worked in a single piece and a steel spindle located in a brass pin that acts as housing, mounted in such a way as to "radise" the energy transferred into the plinth.
The Planar 8 finally mounts the new RB880 arm and is logically present the Neo PSU power supply that offers electronic speed change, advanced anti-vibration control and fine speed adjustment to allow complete accuracy and control of the engine.
To conclude a note of merit goes to the new elegant transparent plastic cover, designed specifically to follow the shapes of this turntable, its characteristic is to be totally removable and in fact it was designed to further reduce the mass of the turntable.
